Somerset County Park Commission: Manager, Park Rangers
Exempt Grade 15 Administrative Division
Starting Rate: $67,200
Description: Under direction of the Deputy Director/Business Administrator, responsible for the
coordination, operation, and management of the Commission’s Park Ranger personnel
and activities. This position is accountable for the efficient day to day operation of the Park Ranger Department and directly supervises two (2) fulltime supervisors who oversee 11 full-time and up to eight (8) seasonal employees.
The Somerset County Park Commission owns and maintains approximately 14,500 acres of property. The properties, which include undeveloped natural areas, developed natural areas, general-use parks, and special-use parks, attract several million visitors each year.
The Manager of the Park Ranger Department is responsible for managing general patrol, visitor services, and protection management of natural resources, and public safety issues of these areas.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree majoring in Park/Recreation Management, Natural Resource Management, or related field, with a minimum of five years management experience. Neat, clean appearance and ability to work with the general public crucial. Ability to
supervise staff, departmental programs, and operation of facilities.
Ability to work evenings and weekends, and ability to adjust work schedule as required for the efficient operation of programs and facilities.
Must have valid CPR and First Aid certification. Certified Recreation and Park Professional preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license.

The organization’s focus is to effectively manage recreational and competitive programs within the geographic boundaries of the association while enhancing the image and awareness of USTA MS programs and building a sustainable partnership between the association and the constituency it serves. USTA MS serves more than 28,000 members.

The Township of Bloomfield is currently seeking to hire two Recreation Leaders. The full time positions entail planning, developing, promoting and overseeing recreational programs, sports activities, cultural affairs and special events to meet the needs of the community.  

The Recreation Leader will be responsible for recruiting, training and evaluating program instructors, counselors and other paid and volunteer staff members.  They will be responsible for establishing schedules and methods for providing recreation services and will be required to participate in special events throughout the year, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Appointees must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license. Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.  Additional work experience may be substituted. 2018 Salary Range $41,616-$53,060

Therapeutic Recreation Program Coordinator-Somerset County Park Commission

Under the direction of the Therapeutic Recreation Manager, this position, in conjunction with the other department Program Coordinator, is responsible for the planning and implementation of therapeutic recreation programs for children and adults with disabilities who reside in Somerset County. Programs encompass a variety of artistic, culinary, sports, fitness, and horticulture activities, as well as community outings, overnight and week-long trips, and special events. Two summer day camps are also conducted for children with learning disabilities or Asperger’s Syndrome. Evening and  occasional weekend hours required.  Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation or a  related field preferred, but at least a minimum of three years experience in planning, developing, and implementing recreation programs for individuals with disabilities. Possess knowledge of various disability groups. Ability to supervise staff. Must be certified in First Aid/CPR or obtain certification within six months of employment. CTRS certification is a plus. Must possess valid driver's license and the ability to perform the responsibilities. Ability to use Microsoft Office. Must work evenings and weekends as assigned or as needed.
