Program Supervisor of Athletic & Aquatic Services-Township of Livingston (Essex County) Senior, Youth, and Leisure Services Department
The position manages and oversees the day-to-day operations of all Athletic and Aquatics programs for youth and adults. The individual would be responsible for supervising all Athletic Recreation, volunteer coaches, and Aquatic Life guards and staff. Candidates must have experience in recruiting and training staff, program scheduling, coordination and communication with partner organizations, and creating, monitoring, and making recommendations for budget lines. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Administration, Physical Education or related field. Demonstrated experience in recreation programming, athletics, aquatics and the delivery of leisure services for at least three (3) years with progressive responsibilities that includes supervisory and budgeting experience is also required. Certified Pool Operator Certification must be obtained within six (6) months of date set by management.

The Somerset County Park Commission’s Environmental Education Center is seeking a part-time gift shop clerk/front desk host to manage merchandise carried in the gift shop, perform quarterly merchandise inventory, assist with registration and provide assistance to park patrons at the front desk. Associates degree from an accredited college or institution of higher education in the field of Human Resources, Public Administration, or related field, or two years experience working in retail management required.  The incumbent must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills  Computer skills, including MS Office, social media, database, and spreadsheet management required Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and adjust work schedule as required for the efficient operation of facilities and programs.    Retail, marketing, or customer service experience preferred. Camp Director Responsibilities

Most Camp Directors have full time jobs during the school year, and commit 10-15 hours each week to their Camp Director role pre-camp with 3-4 additional weekends of training.

Nixon Day Camp (June-July)
Location of Camp: 275 Mt Arlington Blvd, Landing, NJ 07850

Camps run for 5 weeks, starting June 26th and ending July 28th.

  • Work part-time preparing for camp the week before camp begins, often at your camp location
  • Work on-site Monday-Friday for 5 weeks from 8:30am to 12:30pm (20 hours a week)
  • Run daily operations of camp, creating a high energy, fun and creative experience for campers
  • Lead and manage staff, ensuring quality instruction, high energy, and overall performance
  • Communicate daily with parents and Recreation Director
  • Manage costs, including supplies and staffing
  • Develop relationships with facilities partners and ensure facility is well maintained and left in excellent condition

Customer Service Ranger – MORRIS COUNTY (NJ) PARK COMMISSION is seeking a Part-time seasonalCustomer Service Ranger whoperforms customer relations functions at parks and facilities, providing information and assistance to groups and individuals to ensure an enjoyable visit and that visitors are following Park Commission Rules & Regulations. This position is primarily for the Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Morris Township.

  • Assists groups, photographers, and other users with reservations by greeting them, providing directions or other information, parking assistance, acting as a resource and point of contact.
  • Assists groups, photographers, and other users without reservations by advising group of reservation procedure and processing daily permits and directing them to available areas.
  • Provides basic information about sites to visitors, such as suggested walks, garden information,
  • site history and highlights, etc.
  • Assures that reservable areas are free of litter and debris before and after reservations.
  • Resolves conflicts between multiple rental groups, the general park patrons etc.
  • Assures that rental groups vacate rented areas on a timely basis.
  • Processes permits and collects fees from groups, photographers and other users without required permits
  • Reviews daily activity reservations to prepare for patron arrival and monitoring of area.
  • Locks/unlocks buildings to facilitate user rentals and monitors same as required
  • Advises park users of policies, rules and regulations, and operating guidelines in a positive, friendly manner. Encourages compliance without confrontation.
  • Contacts Park Police for group assistance for roadway traffic control, injuries, disorderly conduct or other emergencies.
  • Records daily park activity as requested.
  • Assists, as needed, with specific special event or activities such as Park Commission programming, weddings and various rentals, concerts, including but not limited, to setups, breakdowns, participation, clean up, trash and litter removal etc.
  • Is responsible for any Park Commission equipment issued during scheduled shift, such as a vehicle, two way radio, etc.
  • May be required to travel between several park sites, according to the schedule of activities.
  • Assists with minor maintenance procedures such as watering plants, cleaning, etc. as required.
  • Assists with trash and litter removal as required
  • Continuously patrols and monitors park areas as directed on foot or by vehicle to accomplish the functions listed above

Minimum:
Possession of a valid New Jersey Driver’s license.

• Minimum age: 18 years in order to operate Park Commission vehicles.

• Very good customer service skills particularly in effectively communicating with others.

• Outgoing, friendly attitude and ability to be self‐directed and responsible is also helpful.

• Flexible schedule requirements – must be prepared to work most seasonal weekends May

   through September.

$12.10 per hour.

Superintendent of HorticultureMORRIS COUNTY (NJ) PARK COMMISSION  

The Superintendent of Horticulture is a hands‐on working supervisor position operating under the general supervision of the Manager of Horticulture. Responsibilities include fulfilling supervisory and operational duties for the development and implementation of creative and current professional horticultural, arboricultural and forestry principles and practices. The Superintendent of Horticulture is responsible for both in‐house and contracted Horticultural and Park Maintenance programs and projects for facilities and grounds of the Morris County Park Commission. All work is to be performed in accordance with the regulations and procedures established by the Park Commission, local, state, and federal agencies. Individuals in this position assist in management and operation of the Park Commission’s horticultural facilities, coordinating these functions with other Divisions to achieve common goals. The Superintendent of Horticulture also assists with in‐service training programs for Park Commission personnel, including trainings for pesticide and fertilizer application certifications.

Minimum:
Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or a related field from an accredited college or university or a demonstrated ability to perform the job based on work experience. 

Minimum five years of experience at a botanical garden or arboretum, horticultural trade or institutional program dealing primarily with horticulture or a related field.

Demonstrable competency in identification of a wide range of plant material and botanical nomenclature.

Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize work and coordinate multiple activities and projects at the same time.

Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, validated Certified Pesticide Applicator

Registration from the Department of Environmental Protection of the State of New Jersey in

the following categories: Core, 3A (Turf) and 3B (Ornamentals).

Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, NJ Fertilizer Application certification.

Valid New Jersey Driver’s license.

Applicants must pass a written and field horticultural competency test to be eligible for this position.

Salary: $75,726.00 plus Benefits.
