F/T RECREATION LEADER – TOWN OF WESTFIELD – UNION COUNTY - The Town of Westfield seeks a community-oriented, enthusiastic, and self-motivated professional to join the Recreation Department team as a full-time Recreation Leader. Under the supervision of the Director of Recreation, the professional duties of the Recreation Leader shall include, but not be limited to, development, planning, coordination, budgeting, scheduling, and evaluating a variety of recreation activities with assigned groups. Examples of these activities and groups are, but not limited to; senior citizen programs and transportation, special needs programs, summer playground, and special events. SEASONAL AQUATICS

POOL MANAGER (SEASONAL) - CHATHAM BOROUGH MEMORIAL PARK POOL 

Seasonal Pool Manager duties include pre and post season facility preparation and maintenance. Day to day management, and operation of the pool facility, pool chemicals, equipment, grounds, and bath houses. The Pool Manager will schedule routine water chemistry checks, no less than every two hours, and record. Staff drills, training, education programs will be the responsibility of the Pool Manager to organize and execute with all staff members. The Pool Manager oversee the assistant manager, head guards, and lifeguards.

The Pool Manager will establish and maintain a distribution, collection, and filing system for all documents required for effective pool operation, i.e. daily task activities form, timesheets, daily / weekly staff schedules, and routine clerical administrative tasks for effective pool operation. Conduct preseason orientation for all pool staff, supervise bi-monthly staff water safety drills and protocols in accordance with the NJ State Bathing Code. Monitor, record, and regulate water chemistry and chemical additives, filter sanitization and pool cleaning operations. Communicate weekly onsite with lab testing company. Complete and record daily pool water readings for bathing conformity. Maintain and submit all required daily log sheets. Request and oversee supplies inventory including chlorine and other chemicals, and communicate needs in the advance, for timely use. Develop and implement appropriate special events for membership building and enjoyment. Act as a liaison to membership, pool staff and the Recreation Coordinator. Communicate effectively with staff and interact with patrons providing professional friendly customer service. Ensure miscellaneous duties are assigned and completed. Applicant must be available to work varied weekdays, weekends, holidays and/or shifts. Previous water safety experience is required.

The current certifications are required prior to employment by May 2023, and include:

1.   Lifeguard Training Certification with CPR/AED - First Aid including Blood Bourne Pathogens, and in- person, in water training.

2.   Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and/or Trained Pool Operator (TPO)

3.   Pool Director Certification and/or Lifeguard Management

TREE MAINTENANCE WORKER I - VILLAGE OF RIDGEWOOD

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under direction, applicant will assist in the planting, transplanting, pruning, cutting of trees and assist in the treatment of diseased trees. Applicant must have the ability to, under supervision: perform basic ground crew tasks, have basic knowledge of tree pruning/removal, stump/root grinding.  Applicants must have experience with wood chippers, chainsaws, ropes and knots. PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER I - TOWNSHIP OF RANDOLPH

RESPONSIBILITIES:     Responsible for the general care, supervision and upkeep of all municipal facilities and parks. Knowledge and semi-skilled work of various trades such as plumbing, electricity, auto mechanics, carpentry, snow plowing, and other related duties.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Performs all maintenance, construction and repairs for park and trail facilities. Landscaping work as needed.

Snow removal and ice control as required. During snowstorm events, Park Maintenance Workers will be assigned by Public Works. Duties may include plowing roads or parking lots, as well as shoveling sidewalks.

Completion of park maintenance responsibilities as assigned by supervisory staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid NJ Driver’s License with ability to drive various trucks, landscaping equipment and construction vehicles.

Ability to demonstrate and to operate safely and efficiently the various types of mowers, trucks and landscaping equipment.

Ability to understand, remember and follow all unwritten instructions. Physical health and strength required to perform various heavy tasks.

Ability to assist and prepare athletic fields. Knowledge of field sizes, layouts, and preparation methods, including setting up goals, backstops, and general lining.

Ability to lift physically heavy objects and to work continuously under varying weather conditions.

Knowledge of Randolph Parks and Trails systems and all aspects of maintaining same.

Ability to work as part of a team.

Summer Camp Counselor – Teen Scene Division -Branchburg, NJ

Branchburg Recreation Department is interviewing Camp Counselor candidates for Branchburg Recreation's Summer Camp Program – Teen Scene Division. This half-day program is for children in grades 6-8. Counselors will assist with the planning, organization and implementation of camp activities. They will supervise, monitor and participate in all activities, including field trips, arts and crafts, sports, themed weeks, and a variety of other activities. While doing so, counselors are expected to serve as an appropriate role model for the children in his/her care.

ASSISTANT LAKE DIRECTOR - Lincoln Park, NJ

Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Monday

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent or Recreation, the Recreation Superintendent and/or his or her designee, the Assistant Lake Director is responsible for providing overall direction to the Lincoln Park Community Lake and its staff by supervising, lifeguarding and promoting safety in swimming and all other activities for the purpose of enhancing resident enjoyment. The position is a part-time support position to the Lake Director to ensure that there is ample supervisory personnel on the Lake premises at all times. The position requires some pre-season part-time work in the creation and development of programming and assisting in the hiring of staff. The Assistant Lake Director position is a seasonal part-time position with no vacation, sick time or health benefits. The scheduled hours will meet the needs of the Lake schedules, such as summer camp activities and swim lessons, weekly schedules will be agreed upon with the Lake Director and Recreation Superintendent. The Lake opens Memorial Day Weekend and remains open through Labor Day Monday.

Duties & Responsibilities:

 Supervise the daily opening/closing preparations & procedures including general safety and sanitation. Directs and oversees daily life guarding operations.

 Schedule all lake personnel on a weekly basis.

 Assist with the planning, organization, implementation and coordination of all lake activities and schedules, including but not limited to swim lessons, swim meets, camp and special events.

 Meet with the Lifeguard(s) and Swim Team Coach on a daily basis to review events, schedules, concerns, maintenance issues, etc.

 Meet with Lake Director or Recreation Superintendent prior to the season and on weekly basis during the season to provide personnel and facility updates. Schedule weekly meetings with the lake staff.

 Facilitate and attend staff training/In-Service training sessions during the season and all staff meetings throughout the season. Schedule and facilitate subordinate staff training sessions.

 Supervise, manage and motivate all personnel and effectively ensure all directions to be carried in a prompt, professional, mature and respectful manner.

 Ensure the safety of all staff and lake patrons by teaching and enforcing safety rules/guidelines.

 Assign all personnel to their respective work areas.

 Inspect work to see that desired objectives are achieved including the prevention of the use of unguarded beach areas and other abuse of beach privileges.

 Will be required to learn to utilize various types of computerized information systems used, including but not limited to computer and various programs such as e-mail, excel, and word.

 Supervise Staff Time Management (ensure punch in/out, advise if Primepoint/Kronos issues occur)

 Keep track of absences and report same to the Lake Director. All absences should be called into the Lake Director.

 Inform the Lake Director Recreation Superintendent and/or his or her designee of any concerns/problems of any lifeguards.

 Supervises the establishment and maintenance of records and files to include: staff schedules, attendance, incident/accident reports, safety logs, training logs and other reports.

 Review, train and lead EAP (Emergency Action Plan) when needed.

 Monitor sanitary standards of entire facility including but not limited to bathrooms, pavilion, gate guard hut, storage hut, beach area, entrance area, etc.

 Oversees daily receipts: responsible for daily review/reconciliation of receipts and change bank

 Identifies materials and equipment needed to perform tasks, requisitions, receives, stores and issues materials and supplies.

 Oversees snack stand and ice cream sales, revenues and inventories.

 Supervises subordinates in the following:

o patron check-in procedures

o rescue drill participation and attendance

o first aid during assigned shifts,

o cleaning and maintenance of all lake facilities

o collection and removal of trash and debris

o installation and removal of geese fencing when appropriate

o maintenance and installation of rules and regulation signs

o storage and safeguarding of beach equipment, materials and supplies

Qualifications & Experience: person(s) applying for this position should have a combination of the following experience and training:

 Three (3) years of experience as a lifeguard involving rescue procedures and the administration of first aid and artificial resuscitation.

 Prior Head Lifeguard/Lifeguarding, Aquatics Supervision and/or Recreation experience preferred.

 Knowledge of State Bathing Code Rules and Regulations.

 All applicants should possess current and valid certifications issued by a recognized organization such as the American Red Cross:

o Lifeguard Certification

o First Aid Certification

o CPR Certification to include adult, child and infant as well as obstructed airway training

o Professional Rescuer/Water Safety Instruction/CPO (preferred, not required)

Knowledge & Abilities:

 Ability to cope with large groups and noise levels, including children, monitoring both visually and audibly to insure safety, facility rules and health standards.

 Knowledge of surveillance methods used to recognize and prevent injuries in swim and bathing areas, water-rescue equipment. Ability to inspect, use and train others on water-rescue equipment.

 Knowledge of EAP, (Emergency Action Plan) and ability to conduct training session on same.

 Ability to interpret and enforce bathing codes regulations and procedures carry out assignments and instructions and organize lifeguarding work.

 Ability to calmly and effectively supervise water rescue operations

 Ability to swim in accordance with certification standards

 Ability to follow routine verbal and written directions.

 Ability to oversee and assigned area and to take the lead over subordinate employees.

Other Requirements:

Marlboro Swim Club is currently seeking a full-time Pool Manager. Managers are responsible for enforcing policies and procedures, which ensure efficient and effective operation of pool facilities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to personnel management and training, all swimming pool operations, including first aid, rotation scheduling for staff, and public relations.

Also responsible for some pool maintenance such as daily chemical analysis/testing, pool cleaning and all other duties as necessary or required.

Overview:

The Stewardship Department of the Mercer County Park Commission aims to restore and maintain ecological integrity, protect natural resources, and develop environmental values within communities of Mercer County. We are looking for interns to assist in accomplishing these missions, primarily with trail maintenance and the response to invasive species that threaten the valuable native habitat within our parks. This position will be largely field-based.

Job Description:

The Mercer County Park Commission Stewardship Department is looking for a Seasonal Land Steward for the summer of 2023. This is a field-based position, focusing on trail maintenance, invasive species control as well as restoration maintenance and monitoring. Applicant must be willing to take the NJDEP Pesticide CORE course and complete 40 hours of on-the-job pesticide training under the direction of a licensed applicator. Other work will include trail construction and maintenance, restoration plantings, fence installation and repair, and assisting volunteers during large scale cleanups or planting events. Applicant will also use ESRI Field Maps and ArcGIS to map and track pesticide applications, invasive species populations, and rare species occurrences. The candidates who fill this role will ideally begin in May or June and work through August 2023. Work will be primarily Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend hours. 7am-3pm; 21 to 35 hours/week.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to work outdoors for extended periods of time
  • The ability to perform physically demanding, manual labor at times during the heat of summer
  • Valid New Jersey driver’s license

Job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform trail maintenance using hand and power tools, as well as the installation of trail markers
  • Invasive species management utilizing mechanical tools and chemical applications in a safe and responsible manner, under the direction of a licensed applicator
  • Perform restoration maintenance and monitoring, including the installation of exclusion fencing, tree tubes, manual weeding and planting trees/shrubs by hand
  • Utilize in-field data collection applications for the monitoring of invasive species, rare plants, trail surveys, natural resource monitoring and maintenance records

  • Assist in managing volunteer groups in plantings and clean-up projects
  • Assist in the installation of signage, property boundary marking, and encroachment monitoring on preserved Open Space properties

General Statement of Work

Under the direction of the Manager of Environmental Science, performs a variety of registration, clerical, and office duties relevant to maintain an efficient and productive department. Duties

1. Register participants for programs and enter household data into RecTrac. Process payments, cancellations, and refunds for public programs, school groups, and summer camps.

2. Process special revenue transactions and refunds. Create a special revenue report twice per month. Create a list for all special revenue programs prior to each program registration. Share report and program list with County Finance Department.

3. Serve as Volunteer Coordinator for all Park Commission departments by collecting volunteer paperwork and distributing to appropriate departments. Serve as chair of the SCPC Volunteer Committee; plan and execute the annual Volunteer Evening of Recognition for the SCPC. Compile content for quarterly volunteer newsletter.

4. Manage Environmental Science Department Volunteer Program by recruiting, interviewing, and training volunteers as requested by staff to assist with various needs such as Naturalist programs, special events, gardening, and animal care. Maintain volunteer records and database and ensure effective supervision of volunteers.

5. Schedule room rental reservations. Receive application requests, type confirmation forms, collect certificates of insurance, process payment for all facility rentals, and issue permits.

6. Assist with recording minutes of staff meetings. Maintain mailroom organization. Coordinate pick-up and delivery of inter-office mail, faxes, US mail, and UPS/FedEx.

7. Input attendance into the County timekeeper system for fulltime, seasonal, and part-time employees.

8. Operate and maintain bookshop. Perform front desk duties, including financial end-of-day procedures, daily. Manage cash drawer and cash box. Compile deposits, transport to depository, and file deposit receipts twice per week. Maintain all digital and paper files related to deposits.

9. Respond to public inquiries in person, on the telephone, by email, and through correspondence regarding programs, special events, and general Environmental Education Center information.

10. Maintain inventory of office and maintenance supplies for all staff members. Compile orders and pass order information to manager for approval.

11. Assist department with special events.

12. Manage, monitor, and maintain the usage, troubleshooting, and repair of business office machines.

13. Replenish maps and other literature in brochure racks. Organize, maintain, and create lobby displays.

14. Represent the department on various SCPC committees as assigned.

15. Present a positive image as a Park Commission representative to the public.

16. Follow Park Commission policies and procedures.

17. Perform other duties as assigned by the Park Commission.

Accountability

This position is accountable for providing operational and clerical services for the Environmental Science Department as well as coordination of volunteers for the Park Commission.

Qualifications

Graduation from high school, including or supplemented by courses in business or office management. Associates degree from an accredited college or institution of higher education is preferred. Ability to use Microsoft Office Applications including Word, Excel, and Access. Ability to use or learn RecTrac permitting and registration system and Vista timekeeper. Job Description:

Under the direction of the Day Camp Director, provides oversight and guidance to counselors. Assists Camp Director in development and implementation of daily camp activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply the rules of SunFun Day Camp and where disciplinary action is required. Report to the camp director following the “organizational structure”.
  • Shall be at the program site by 8:00am each day, and not leave until 5:30pm each day.
  • Observe each camper daily and check for cuts, bruises, skin rashes, or other indications of illness or injury.
  • Ride the bus at least once a week, providing songs, games, and stories, in addition to enforcing safety precautions during the trip, assign buddy, and practice lost camper drills.
  • Help the campers with daily self-maintenance tasks: i.e. collecting lunches upon arrival at camp and eating lunch together, helping campers prepare for swimming, and being sure all personal belongings get home each night.
  • Provide overnight supervision at annual Camp-Out.
  • Offer guidance in-group and camp-wide activities.
  • Assist with swim lessons for assigned groups, and during free swim conduct buddy checks every 10 minutes.
  • Keep camp supplies and equipment in good shape, including putting them away when finished with a project.

Manalapan Township Parks and Recreation is seeking an experienced instructor to lead story time and sensory-focused recreation programs for young children. Additional class activities may include themed arts and crafts, group games, nature walks, circle time and more. Instructor is responsible for creating and leading all class activities. Prior demonstrated experience teaching or working with preschoolers is a must. Hours will include some weekends.

County Park Superintendent - County of Bergen - Department of Parks & Recreation 

Under direction, administers a comprehensive maintenance and development program for a geographical division of a large park system or a small or medium sized park system including parks and/or reservations, directs employees engaged in carrying out maintenance programs, prepares budget requests and administers an approved budget, develops, and submits plans for park rehabilitation and improvement as directed; does related work as required.

Knowledge and Job Responsibilities: (may include but not limited to) • Knowledge of the equipment and methods used in caring for park facilities. • Knowledge of the operation of varied types of park machinery. • Knowledge of the public uses to which parks and property are put. • Knowledge of sound budgetary practices and knowledge of effective park planning techniques. • Ability to give suitable assignments and instructions to employees. • Ability to provide technical advice and direction when difficult and unusual problems arise. • Ability to see that reasonable standards of workmanship and output are maintained and that desired objectives are achieved. • Ability to work harmoniously with associates, citizens, and others using the park facilities.

  • Directs and supervises the operation and management of all active and passive parkland (exclusive of golf course and the Bergen County Zoo).
  • Serves as Department safety officer.
  • Responsible to determine need and recruit full time, part time and seasonal staff in support of such.
  • Responsible for management of the division budget, developing, maintaining, and enforcing policies, procedures, and rules for the use and operation of parkland under their charge, scheduling, training, and managing asset allocation as well as maintaining any other plans, records, and documents relevant to the operation of the division.

Schedule:

  • Monday – Friday – 40hrs/wk (weekends and over time as needed)

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (horticulture, forestry, civil engineering, landscape architecture, park planning, park management, forest recreation management, conservation, natural resource management, earth sciences or environmental sciences)
  • Ten (10) years of management experience in managing the operational needs of a large urban park or park system including, but not limited to, planning the care and maintenance of large tracts of land, maintenance of public recreation facilities, preparation and administration of budgets and effective management of staff, and a thorough knowledge of the means, methods, and technology by which to accomplish such.
  • Membership in an organization that is relevant to horticulture/ landscaping, or any facet of parks operations is preferred. Examples: National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA), Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS), American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA)

Skills and Special Requirements:

  • New Jersey residency.
  • Valid NJ Driver’s License, CDL candidates (preferred).
  • Certified Playground Safety Inspector (preferred).
  • Certified Pool Operator (preferred).
  • NJ Certified Pesticide Applicator Category 2, 3A, 3B, 5 (preferred).
  • Experience with Integrated Pest Management.
  • NJ Certified Compost Site Operator (optional).
  • Effective verbal, writing, multi-tasking and delegating skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational (planning & time management) and problem-solving skills in a timely fashion.
