GARDENER

This position is responsible for basic park horticulture duties including landscaping, groundskeeping and event set-up/breakdown.  

Under supervision, performs routine work in basic plant care and maintenance of display beds, formal gardens, native gardens, hedges, trees and lawns in a public park setting. Job Overview: The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all pool patrons by preventing accidents, responding to emergencies, and enforcing pool rules and regulations. This role requires maintaining a high level of professionalism, attentiveness, and adherence to safety procedures at all times.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Safety & Supervision:

o Monitor all pool activities to ensure patron safety.

o Maintain familiarity with the Emergency Action Plan.

o Respond swiftly and appropriately to all emergency situations in and around the pool.


2. Emergency Response & First Aid:

o Administer first aid, CPR, and water rescues as needed.

o Properly document and report all incidents to the Pool Manager and Park Director.


3. Compliance & Enforcement:

o Enforce all pool policies, procedures, and regulations set forth by the Recreation Commission.

o Maintain all required certifications in compliance with federal and state requirements.


4. Pool & Facility Maintenance:

o Keep the pool area clean and orderly, including removing debris and maintaining the pool deck and scum line.

o Assist with general pool maintenance tasks.


5. Staff Meetings & Training:

o Attend all scheduled staff meetings and safety drills unless pre-approved by the Pool Manager and Recreation Director.

o Participate in training exercises to maintain lifeguarding skills.


6. Professionalism & Conduct:

o Represent the organization professionally at all times.

o Refrain from using cell phones while on duty, as per regulations.

o Follow dress code requirements, including wearing approved lifeguard swim attire.


7. Patron Interaction & Assistance:

o Provide assistance during adult swim sessions as instructed by the Pool Manager.

o Help facilitate and support programs held at the park.


8. Disciplinary Measures:

o Handle minor rule violations by issuing warnings (benching).

o Refer serious disciplinary actions to the Pool Manager.


Qualifications & Requirements:

• Must hold and maintain current lifeguard, CPR, and first aid certifications.

• Strong swimming skills and ability to perform water rescues.

• Knowledge of safety protocols and emergency response procedures.

• Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Work Environment:

• Outdoor pool setting with exposure to sun and water for extended periods.

• Rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required.

Job Summary

The summer camp director is responsible for the overall planning and management of all our camp operations. This includes staff recruitment and training, the development of camp programs, camper safety and welfare, budgeting and communication with parents and guardians.

The director ensures that the camp provides high-quality programs that are both fun and educational. This is a top-level position that requires extensive experience and specific educational requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Staff Management. The summer camp director is responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising all camp staff. This includes counselors, activity specialists, and support staff.
  • Program Development. The director must design and implement a diverse range of camp programs and activities. The programs must be age-appropriate, engaging, and educational.
  • Camper Safety and Welfare. The safety and welfare of the campers and staff are the priority of the camp director. They must enforce camp policies and procedures, including emergency response plans.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

The Recreation Program Supervisor is responsible for day-to-day coordination and supervision of various activities and services administered within the Recreation Department. Areas of assignment include the following: Programming, Special Events, Summer Camps, Ice Arena, Facilities, Teen Programs, Youth and Adult Sports. Oversee part-time recreation staff, including determining workloads and schedules, implementing and interpreting policies and procedures, effectively evaluating staff and making hiring and disciplinary recommendations. Recreation Program Supervisors are expected to exercise a high degree of expertise, initiative and independent decision-making to ensure customer satisfaction.

Plans, organizes, conducts and coordinates a wide variety of recreational programs in all recreation facilities and board of education facilities, apply for use of BOE facilities in a timely manner to assure facilities are secured for planned programming, coordinates programs with departments. Provides input into the development of programming, determining staffing and materials.

Monitors program activities, including seeking approval of expenditures and ensuring activities are running smoothly; responds to questions and complaints.

 Prepares a variety of reports and other documents such as operating, activity and statistical reports, promotional materials and agenda items; presents materials to interested groups.

Sets up seasonal programs in RecDesk for Fall/Winter, Spring and Summer on-line registration. Design and develop seasonal brochures for public information and registration. Oversee registration activities and ensure accurate record keeping for program receipts.

Plans and coordinate special events, such as but not limited to: Easter, Father/ Daughter Dance, Menorah and Tree Lighting, Halloween Spooktacular.  Maintains contacts with neighborhood groups, schools, businesses, law enforcement agencies, volunteer and other community groups and provides necessary coordination of services.  Develop fundraising campaigns and solicit sponsors to assist in the funding of special events.

Instruct and supervise part-time recreation staff and volunteers in the performance of assigned duties and checks on the completion of work. Any other duty deemed necessary, pertaining to the above.

Education and Experience:

Must possess and maintain a valid New Jersey driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

Under the direction of the Facility Manager and Program Coordinator, a Teacher/Program Assistant aids

the Center staff in conducting environmental education programs and helping to support special events serving all

ages and interest groups at the Center. The Teacher/Program Assistant will also provide administrative support in

the daily execution of assigned program(s) or projects. Ability to work week days and Saturdays between 9am to

2pm is necessary, as well as occasional weekday afternoons and evenings; approximately 25 hours per week.


Duties

children ages 18 months to grade 12 and adults.

Background

The candidate for this position has background in biology, environmental science, education, or related field with

some lifting required.

Under direction, plans, promotes, organizes and administers a comprehensive recreation service for the community.  Studies community recreation needs and develops immediate and long-range plans to meet these needs.
