Recreation Assistant– Mount Olive Township, Morris County

Activities Coordinator (Aquatics) - Township of Montclair, NJ 

Summary: Plans, directs, and supervises recreation programs, cultural activities, and special events that can involve thousands of attendees/participants; plans and coordinates the advertising and promotion of special events, general community programs and recreational activities; manages and oversees the daily operation of the three municipal pools in the Township; performs related duties as required. Work is performed under general direction from the Director of Recreation and Cultural Affairs, who reviews performance for conformance to departmental policies and procedures.

Duties: Assists the Director in the performance of departmental duties. Plans, directs, and supervises recreational and cultural activities and events; assigns staff, prepares schedules, registers participants, and recruits and supervises community volunteers. Coordinates scheduling of various recreational and special events and schedules the use of facilities. Handles requests for information concerning programs and events; apprises participants on rules and regulations governing use of facilities or sites; prepares information for inclusion in brochures and calendars of events and regulations of the recreational facilities; prepares reports on activities, permits and schedules; compiles statistical and other data; maintains records and files. Prepares grant applications for programs and events and may solicit sponsors and funding for various programs and events. Oversees operation of the three Montclair Municipal Swimming Pools, including the hiring, training and supervision of all pool staff, pool safety regulations, code compliance and enforcement, budget, pool membership, swim instruction program, ordering and maintaining of supplies/inventory and coordination with Department of Community Services of pool maintenance.

Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent, and valid New Jersey Driver’s License. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a related position. Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or the ability to become certified within 6 months of appointment. Bachelor’s Degree in Parks & Recreation Administration, Sports Management, Physical Education or related field preferred; Certified Pool Operator and Pool Director certification preferred. Position requires off hours availability to work nights, weekends and holidays as situations warrant.

Salary: $56,574 per year; includes full benefits.

Perform a variety of routine administrative and supervisory duties needed to ensure that the day-to-day operations and services of the Department of Parks and Recreation are completed. Including but not limited to: facility permitting, Clean Communities program, human resources management, special event planning, and general recreation programming.  Additionally, oversees the daily non-maintenance operations of seasonal swim pools and employee work assignments.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS --Per ordinance, policy and guidelines, assists with the scheduling of Township owned and/or managed parks, recreation sites and athletic facilities--Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, standards, policies and procedures--verifies adherence to established safety procedures, and monitors work environment-

-Coordinates and assists in developing and administering new/existing programs and activities- especially marketing material such as flyers, posters, news releases, social media posts, etc. –-Assists in evaluations of programs to review that they meet the needs of the community.  Oversees assigned special events

-Facilitates the Township’s Clean Communities program, including grants and reports-

-Monitors the Department’s inventory of equipment and supplies; ensures availability of adequate equipment and supplies to conduct work activities; initiates new orders of said equipment and supplies

-Aids with the bidding and solicitation of concession specifications and service agreements.  Monitors performance of concession operators and ensures payments are processed-

-Provides administrative support to the Director of Parks and Recreation in the preparation of annual divisional operating and capital budgets-

-Supports in the development and implementation of facility policies and procedures.  Assists in the review, design and implementation of the pool personnel manual and aquatic facility emergency management procedures-

-Assists with evaluating assigned management, lifeguards and pool attendants.  Processes employee concerns and problems. Recruits and trains employees and volunteers.  Conducts interviews and makes hiring recommendations; provides general administrative support-

-Prepares and completes various forms, reports, correspondence, training reports/records, purchase orders, budget documents, statistical data, aquatic records, surveys, class registration forms, progress reports, pool logs etc.

-Monitors swim pool facility safety practices and when needed, provides appropriate safety equipment at each facility

ASSISTS WITH THE FOLLOWING: --orientation, training, supervising, evaluation and testing of aquatic staff-

 -development of a complete program course offerings, including standard aquatic program offerings, special events, and innovative and cutting-edge classes-

-coordination, management and customer satisfaction for all programs including overseeing the teaching, coaching, instructing of aquatics programs-

-scheduling and conducting in-service training programs for aquatic staff.  Teach training sessions as needed


1. Education and Experience

A. High School Diploma with the ability to read, write and speak the English language, and B. Three (3) or more years of experience performing the above or related duties, or C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.  Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Sports/Leisure Administration, or related fields preferred.

2. Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

 A. Knowledge of common swim pool management practices and procedures; state and federal regulations governing facility and pool operations

B. Government purchasing and financial processes C. Excellent communications and organizational skills required

3. Special Qualifications A. Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred B. Must be a Certified Pool Operators (CPO), or a certified Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO), or equivalent, or the ability to obtain within sixty (60) days of employment. C. Must possess Lifeguard/CPR/AED certification, or obtain within sixty (60) days D. Shall possess American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification, or obtain within one hundred twenty (120) days E. Ideal applicant is self-motivated and enjoys working with teen and young adult staff

4. Job Requirements

A. Formal understanding of aquatic management/supervision, chemical and filtration operations, and prefer previous aquatic supervision experience

B. Must possess a valid driver’s license C.

Capacity to resolve conflicts between patrons, program participants and employees

D. Ability to make sound and rational decisions including exercising independent judgement, within parameters E. Must remain current on all required licenses, certifications and in-service requirements

F. Evening and/or weekend hours a must G. Physical:  Sitting, walking and standing for extended periods of time. Lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Part-Time Seasonal Park Ranger - Plainsboro, NJ

The Park Ranger provides general security for Township parks, patrols for damage to property or equipment, monitors use and enforces township park ordinances including issuing summonses. Recreation Director/Special Events Coordinator -The Borough of Woodcliff Lake 

Seeking an experienced, highly organized, innovative leader to serve as the Director of Recreation. Multi-tasking, effective communication skills and computer proficiency a must. Under the supervision of the Borough Administrator, the Recreation Director is responsible for the development, implementation and promotion of activities and community events within the Borough as well as the main point of contact to our sport/recreation associations. The Director will also be responsible for managing and maintaining recreation facilities, including allocating field time to the various organizations that use the facilities. Budget and fiscal management of the department; capital and long-range planning is also a major component of this position. The Borough has a municipal pool, of which the director will oversee the contract with our pool management vendor. He/She will also hire appropriate staff and oversee a growing summer camp program. Responsibilities also include supporting other administrative and municipal communication functions as needed, as well as working with our very active senior association to assist in facilitating programs and events. Candidate must be willing to work extended hours and irregular hours as required given the nature of the position (evenings and weekends). Prior municipal recreation and/or experience desired. NJRPA Part-time Association Services Coordinator, 15 hours per week

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the duties of the Part-time Association Services Coordinator shall include, but are not limited to the following:

·        Oversees association collections management.

·        Prepares all bank deposits for executive director review and handling.

·        Acts as association liaison to consignment program agencies and anticipates and implements ticket stock inventory.

·        Processes and ships all consignment ticket orders and re-orders.

·        Records all ticket transactions accurately, including orders, re-orders, ticket returns, and payments.

·        Prepares ticket vendor payment requisitions balanced with monthly ticket sales summaries, interim, and program-end ticket sales summaries.

·        Ensures accurate close-out of accounts with consignment areas and individual agency consignees.

·        Administers annual conference registration and provides assistance in other conference planning as needed under the direction of the executive director.

·        Handles basic correspondence and member inquiries regarding association programs and services; makes appropriate referrals.

·        Assists the executive director of the association in the day to day office operation.

·        Oversees maintenance of NJRPA office files.

·        Assists with general office clerical, bookkeeping, and mail processing work as time permits.

·        Shares responsibility for cleanliness and general organization of workplace.
