From Schools to Recreation: The Role Recreation Can Play in Transition

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Transition planning for individuals receiving special education services begins during the school year in which the child turns 14 and continues until the student graduates or turns 21.  This session will look at the importance of transition for individuals with disabilities as they begin to explore post-secondary opportunities. We will look at how recreation departments can partner with the schools and the community to provide resources that enable them to be integrated in the community. We will also discuss the importance of different partnerships.

Supplier Diversity

1:00-2:00 PM

Supplier Diversity programs are an important way to combat social injustice in the United States.  This program will provide the opportunity for organizations, municipalities, vendors, and other attendees to understand supplier diversity from both an operational and policy lens.  We will discuss how inclusive procurement can benefit organizations, municipalities, and vendors and provide an outline of how to establish a supplier diversity program/focus that aligns with State and National goals of diversity and inclusion across parks and recreation systems.

Promoting Effective Communication in Diverse Youth
